Space is full of mysteries, and among the biggest ones is the existence of planets.
Like any other person, you’re probably fascinated by the planets and how they exist in such an extreme world.
The universe can be hard to measure, expanding faster than scientists had originally thought. And while humans won’t likely map out space, that will never stop them from discovering and exploring it.
Is there life outside Earth? Well, nobody knows. Today, we will know some interesting and eye-catching discoveries in planets that will blow your mind.
What are the Eye Catching Discoveries in Planets?
Since the inception of NASA in 1958, astronauts have gone to Mars, landed on the moon, and discovered exoplanets.
Keep watching and see what scientists and astronauts have discovered.
1. Ice Volcanoes
It was in 2015 when the Dawn mission of NASA discovered a single volcano mountain that is just close to the equator of planet Ceres.
NASA also reported that the name of the mountain is Ahuna Mons, which likely formed a cryovolcano that releases salty and frigid water. Sometimes, it could be combined with mud instead of molten rocks like in Earth Volcano.
2. Super-Earth
In 2017, an exoplanet with a mass that is almost 3x of Earth was discovered by A. Suarez Mascareno and his team. With the help of the HARPS-N spectrograph, they discovered the “Super-Earth”.
And did you know that it’s twenty-one light years away and orbits its dwarf star in just two weeks? With that, Scientists have their eyes set on planets like this as they could be habitable.
3. Canyons on Titan
In 2013, the Cassini spacecraft discovered deep canyons just about a half-mile wide on the moon Titan of Saturn.
These are liquid-filled canyons that are also like the Grand Canyon formations. What’s interesting is that these canyons are also full of liquid hydrocarbon.
This was the first time ever that researchers found proof of Canyons on Titan and liquid-filled channels.
4. Potentially Habitable Planets
In 2017, there was an exoplanet that is about the size of the Earth was discovered. It is the planet Ross 128b, the closest planet to the solar system and believed to be potentially habitable.
Recently, another earth-like planet called the LP 890-9c was discovered and known as SPECULOOS-2c. This planet also has conditions that could be suitable to support life and may very well exist there.
And as technology continues, what our Scientists see in the universe and beyond is likely becoming more common.
5. Neutron Stars Collision
In 2017, Scientists were able to capture 2 neuron stars that crashed into one another. And did you know that when the star runs out of energy, there’s a big chance that it could collapse and end up either a black hole or neutron star?
This discovery exposed that high-powered effects do not only end up having gravitational waves that may cause a wave in space. They may also result in heavy elements like platinum and gold.
6. Tsunamis on Mars
Perhaps you thought that Tsunamis only happen in our seas, but NASA funded research actually released that Mars also has it.
In 2016, the shorelines located below Mars’s surface were actually formed by 2 events of mega-tsunamis. The findings have actually supported the theory that Mars had an ocean beneath the desert surface.

7. Ultra-Massive Black Holes
Black holes are known to be the invisible parts of space that were created when stars die. Their gravitational pull is strong, and they immerse both light and matter.
Thanks to NASA’s Chandra X-ray telescope, it recently found ultra-massive black holes that could be 10 times larger than what was originally thought.
These black holes grow faster than the stars in their galaxies, and they’re usually in the center, which most galaxies have.
8. Planet-Building Clumps
Scientists reported what they found as an indication of “pebble accretion.” In fact, this theory is about the golf ball-sized clumps of space dust that accumulated in creating tiny planets, the planetesimals.
Results were later published by a team of scientists at the Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science Division at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston and NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California.
9. Cosmic Microwave Background
Billions of years ago, the Big Bang theory held the universe quickly and burst into being 13.8. Four hundred thousand years later, the cosmic microwave background shows the heat left behind. And though radiation could be too cold for humans to see, it’s still noticeable on the microwave part of the electromagnetic spectrum.
The researchers of Bell Telephone Laboratories discovered the cosmic microwave background in 1965. Later in 2013, scientists measured radiation and got the best image of what was believed to be the universe’s birth.
10. Sun Twins
There was a study released in 2017 by researchers about the discovery of Sun Twins. Almost all sun-like stars are shaped with counterparts together with the solar system. However, the theoretical sibling of the sun, called Nemesis, likely drifted millions of years ago.
11. Water on the Moon
Interestingly, NASA also discovered water found on the sunlit part of the moon. This adds a piece of intriguing info to the lunar surface’s mystery. In 2018, scientists discovered new evidence about ice on the moon’s south and north poles. Yet, new discoveries confirm that the water molecule’s presence, like H2O, was just like the Earth.
12. Buckyballs
The Buckyballs are known as spherical, hollow carbon molecules brought as the basis of bands of light in the Milky Way. They got their names from an architect in the 1930s, Buckminster Fuller. And did you know that Buckyballs could also be the source of organic molecules and the key to understanding how life started?
