Scary and Creepy Facts About Mount Everest Nepal

1. Climbing Mount Everest Nepal Without Oxygen

Did you know that there were people who climbed Everest without oxygen? It was Reinhold Messner from Italy who first climbed Mount Everest without Oxygen. In fact, he achieved the feat in 1978 and also held the record

as the first ever person to climb about 14 peaks in the world that could be higher than 8000 m.

What’s more interesting is that he achieved the feat without supplemental oxygen. Messner even has other crucial yet interesting records in his name. He was also the first ever person to cross the Gobi desert, Greenland country, and Antarctica. Amazing right?

2. It Takes Months to Climb Everest

It’s important to be aware of how long it would take for a person to climb Mount Everest, Nepal, especially if you are planning to have this experience. This will help mountaineers prepare for challenges and climbing. And to answer the question, well, it would usually take about 6-9 weeks for a person to climb Mount Everest.

Why so long? It’s because the first week will be for the arrival at the base camp. Next will be spending 3-4 weeks climbing up and down, acclimatizing or trekking on the route of Mount Everest for camps with oxygen, food, and fuel.

Take note that trekking on the route might be crucial and not be taken for granted as this helps climbers get used to and adjust to Mount Everest’s Environment.

3. Everest Death Zone

The Death Zone on Mount Everest is yet another scary fact. The death zone is part of the mountain with an altitude above 8000 m. It is the highest part of Mount Everest and the deadliest part for mountaineers to climb. Thus nicknamed “death zone.”

Another reason why it’s called a “death zone” is because the air contains only a little oxygen. This may cause sickness that makes climbers confused and weak, especially causing frostbite, as the weather can be quite bad. That said, the majority of deaths occur on this part.

4. It has Dead Bodies

A scary yet interesting fact relates to dead bodies on Everest, Nepal. Usually, when the creature dies and the body is left, the body will decompose. However, because of the cold weather on the mountain, the decomposition of the body cannot survive.

What’s more interesting is that the body remains intact and holds its shape for years. Today, Mount Everest has about 200 dead bodies lying on the surface. However, the exact number of bodies is still a mystery. The bodies were former climbers who sacrificed their lives to have the great peak experience.

And as of 2022, about 311 people lost their lives in an attempt to reach Mount Everest’s peak. So, do you still plan on climbing Everest and seeing these dead bodies?

5. Rainbow Valley

The Everest Rainbow Valley is part of the Everest peak in the Death Zone. While hearing Rainbow Valley may sound like a beautiful and colourful place with lots of fun. But know that IT IS NOT.

Yes, it’s colorful when you look at the valley from a distance. Yet the colors come from traumatizing deaths of climbers who lost their lives in ascending and descending Mount Everest’s peak.

The colors were from the colorful jackets climbers wore during their expeditions. And since their bodies remained intact and in shape, so have the winter jackets they wore.

6. Traffic Jam

Mountaineers are going to face the traffic jam of Mt. Everest. It’s just above Camp four, and mountaineers should pass through the Death Zone first. These regions face the traffic jams of Mount Everest, yet many are stuck already in the Death Zone.

It usually takes almost 2 hours to get below sometimes. The worst thing is that climbers could run out of oxygen and must go back to the base camp. On Mount Everest, do not underestimate the traffic jam inconvenience because it could be deadly.

7. Green Boots

Dead bodies on Mount Everest are very hard to bring back, especially since harsh weather haunts every mountaineer’s step. Because of that, the dead become lights that guide mountaineers.

In fact, the Green Boots in Everest Nepal is one of the stories that people tell. One Indian climber, Tsewang Palijor, also fell into a blizzard with zero visibility. His body remained frozen near the cave, and his green boots became conspicuous.

Even today, where Tsewang Palijor rests is known to many as the Green Boot’s Cave. When mountaineers pass the green boots, they must enter the death zone, which only has one-third of oxygen.
