Though this opposes his desire to protect freedom, he recommends that if the opposition was being shown to the state, it simply means that the ‘fundamental freedoms’ he was calling previously shall end.

This is simply the case for the majority of opponents in politics, who opposed the state. Well, it was known that Mussolini hated Socialists and the entire Fascists. In fact, a driving force behind the Fascist violence was the desire to punish Socialists because they did not support Italy during the First Great War.

With that, the Fascists considered Socialists as traitors and enemies who needed to be punished and eradicated.

5. Rule by a Dictator

Lastly, another interesting fact about Mussolini speech is that a dictator should run a fascist state. The thing here is that Benito Mussolini did not become a dictator until the year 1925. 

After becoming prime minister, he reduced the judiciary’s influence, arrested opponents, muzzled a free press, continued condoning fascist violence, and consolidated his hold on power.

Yet, Mussolini continued working within the parliament system until January 1925, when he declared himself a dictator in his speech. That he should handle the decision-making of a fascist state, he described himself as a leader who uses charisma and a very strong personality to get the support of the people.

In 1925-1926, there were a series of attempts of assassination, of which Mussolini became so tight even further. He even banned opposition parties and kicked out more than 100 members of the Parliament. Worse, he reinstated the death penalty for crimes, abolished local elections, and ramped up secret activities of the police.
