Facts About Royals

Curious? In fact, these odd and unusual facts about royals shocked the biggest fans of the monarchy. From how they can be too formal both privately and publicly to their bathing habits and how they want their wardrobe to be, these pieces of information are very interesting and, at times, can be quite intriguing.

If you think you already know enough facts about royals, this video will let you know some shocking and unusual facts about the royals. So, without further ado, let’s get started.

Two Birthdays

Did you know that Kings and Queens have two birthdays? For ordinary people, having two birthdays may seem impossible, as you can only have one birthday once because you are only born once.

In fact, the new king, King Charles, has two birthdays. Do you want to know why?

Well, this is because the birthday of monarchs is marked through the parade known as the Trooping the Colour. Another monarch, Edward II, who reigned from 1901-1910, decided that it would not be fun to celebrate his birthday in November because it was cold. He then moved his birthday to June.

As a result, Kings and Queens get two birthdays!

Queen Elizabeth I Hated Bathing

Did you know that Queen Elizabeth I was not a fan of baths and would only take them once a month? This is whether she needed it or not, no matter how dirty she was!

Back in the days of her reign from 1558 to 1603, people were scared that prolonged soaking would likely cause skin disease. No wonder monarchs like Queen Elizabeth I, James I, and Frances Louis XIV all loathed bathing.

In fact, Louis XIV reportedly took three baths his whole life!

Royals Own All the Swans, Dolphins, and Whales in the UK

Many people know this, but it is still another strange rule for the reigning monarch to own all the England’s unmarked swans, whales, dolphins, and sturgeons in the UK’s coastal waters.

The rule dates back to the 1300s when the dolphins and whales in question are known as “fishes royal.”

Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh are Cousins

The late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip may have been married for more than 70 years, but did you know they are cousins? According to Royal Insider, both are related to Queen Victoria.

The Queen is related to Queen Victoria’s father, while Prince Philip was related to the mother’s side. That said, Queen Victoria is the great-great-grandmother of the couple.

Roman Emperors Poisoned Themselves

It would seem absurd to poison yourself, especially when you are the head of the greatest empire in the world. But did you know that it’s what exactly the Roman Emperors did?

It was actually a subtle plan to prevent being assassinated, and they believed they could take a small and non-lethal dose of poison in a day. They would avoid being murdered, and by such means, should anyone decide to do away with it.

Unfortunately, Julius Caesar has no resistance to prevent being stabbed many times.

Mary, the Queen of Scots, Bathed in Wine

While Queen Elizabeth I of England hated bathing, Mary Queen of Scots is popular for her complexion. She ruled Scotland for about 15 years, from 1542-1567.

Sadly, she was executed after the Babington Plot in 1587, which was also the scheme to murder Queen Elizabeth I and grab the English throne.

Before all that, Mary was reported to have washed her face with wine regularly. This was her way of protecting her cherished complexion. There were also reports suggesting that her routine of bathing in wine was every royal’s habit back then.

Traveling with Bags of their Blood

Of course, heirs to the throne must always be protected at all costs. And when we say protection, it is not limited to having bodyguards and whatnot. This also means traveling with their blood. Literally, own blood!

When travelling around, they have a little fridge with them, which contains their blood. Because if anything happens, especially abroad, they can guarantee that they have a blood transfusion for themselves.

It was reported that The Queen, Charles, and William have this. However, it was not confirmed by the Duchess of Cambridge or her children if they have it too.

7 Years Old Cake

You wouldn’t believe this, but one of the unusual facts about royals is about the cake served at the christening of Prince Louis, which was seven years old.

Well, it has been a tradition for the children of Prince William and Kate to serve a special cake for christening. The cake is a tier from the wedding fruitcake of Cambridge’s, and it was originally baked in 2011.

That said, the cake was seven years old when Prince Louis was christened in 2018. Isn’t it amazing to know the power of a freezer?

Specific Chores Done

Living and growing up in a palace, royals have become so used to having people do things for them. In fact, it was reported that King Charles usually had his shoelaces ironed.

The Queen also had someone to wear in her new shoes to ensure that Her Majesty was comfortable wearing them and that she would never get a blister. Can you imagine how nice it is to be so pampered?

Woken Up by Bagpipes

If we have alarm clocks and farmers have roosters to wake up, The Queen has bagpipes to wake her up every day. They usually play at 9 in the morning, just under her terrace, for her majesty to relish.

While not all of us enjoy the sound of bagpipes, The Queen was a big fan of Scotland, that’s why it makes a lot of sense that she enjoys the national instrument as well.
